Vancouver Aboriginal Health Society (VAHS) is a non-profit organization established in 1991 to improve and promote the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health of individuals, focusing on the Indigenous community in the Greater Vancouver area. We aim to serve our community with programs and services informed by Indigenous knowledge and methods. The VAHS Primary Care Clinic offers a broad range of supportive programs and services, including integrated medical, counselling, and Elder cultural support.

FUNCTION

The Intake/Security Worker provides administrative assistance to the Clinic, including intake and triage of clients, and provides security within our primary care team.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

This position is responsible to and reports directly to the Clinic Coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Intake duties, including greeting and triaging all clients

  • Creating and managing electronic medical records

  • Security duties, including de-escalating crisis situations and enforcing policies and procedures

  • Clerical duties, including booking appointments and responding to client inquiries in-person and over the phone

  • Housekeeping duties, including opening and closing the Medical Clinic

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive knowledge of Indigenous culture and traditions. This knowledge will be complemented by experience working with a marginalized population that deals with compounded social challenges, including mental health, complex trauma, substance use and misuse, chronic diseases, oppression, homelessness, and poverty.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and in a team

  • Skilled in using a variety of office equipment and computer software

  • Knowledge of Indigenous community resources and other community support services

  • Ability to effectively and safely resolve crisis situations

  • Grade 12 completion or equivalent is an asset

  • Recent clinical/medical office support experience is an asset
